Ubuntu is a way of doing community among some tribes in South Africa. When they greet each other they do not say, "Hello" or "How are you?" rather they say Sawu bona--"I see you." When someone greets you in this manner then you reply, Sikhona--"I am here."
Peter Senge writes, "the order of the exchange is important: until you see me, I do not exist. It's as if, when you see me, you bring me into existence."
Unbuntu is derived from the Zulu saying, Umuntu ngumuntu nagabantu, meaning "A person is a person because of other people."
I wonder...is jazz the Ubuntu of America?
