I am...
...in need of God's amazing grace.
...in need of God's mercy to show up daily in my life.
...in need of accountability from others. Not from those who condemn but those who will tell me the truth and walk with me toward freedom.
...broken.
...capable of betraying that which matters most for that which is hollow and fleeting.
...always in need of Jesus being Jesus. His name means savior and daily I need him to save me from the world, flesh, devil--from myself.
...more than willing to build a brand of myself for public consumption that creates a huge gap between who I am and who other's perceive me to be, only to live daily with the haunting knowledge that I can't be who I have told others I am.
...one who needs to be reminded that it is possible to sin much and yet, end up loving God even more.
Say it with me...I am Tiger Woods!
I am tiger woods.
Excellent blog post. I needed this perspective change.

Well, there is sin--and there is sin. We must see the log in our own eye before seeing the speck in our neighbors. Yet not everyone is a narcicissist sex addict. Further, does Tiger has a Christian testimony?
May God forgive and restore him to real integrity.

So, so, so true! Thank you for this reminder! And I think in our Holy and Perfect Savior's eyes, there is sin. Period. And then there is Grace and Mercy and Forgiveness. And I'm so grateful.

Prof. Groothuis,
Yet! Tiger doesn't have a Christian testimony "yet." Not everyone is a narcicissist sex addict, everyone is capable of ruining our lives for the fleeting pleasures of sin. This is a given for those without the Spirit of Christ and those with his presences are not immune.

I blogged on Tiger too! I appreciate the way you put this entry on Tiger together, bro! Outstanding, thoughtful job! We all stand in need of the forgiveness of a loving and merciful Savior like Jesus!

I agree with you, sir, that we are all in need of the mercy of God. I agree that we all need his grace.
But the overall message of the Old and New Testaments goes further than you take it here, I think.
When God promised a New Covenant to his people through the prophets - he said he was going to put his Spirit in them in order to "write the law on their hearts" and thus give them the ability to keep his commandments and stay in covenant with him. (Ezek. 36:25-27, for example)
That New Covenant IS his mercy and grace toward us. That New Covenant, including the sending of his Spirit - according to Romans 8 - gives us (or should give us!) the power to say no to sin and yes to God.
So then, I suppose in a way "I am Tiger Woods" - in that I need God's Spirit to do God's will, just like Tiger does.
And in many other ways "I am NOT Tiger Woods" because I am not living a lie, but rather seeking, and more and more every day finding, the power to say yes to God and no to sin so that I may please God.
